On the morning of June 1, 2023, 34-year-old Rocco Marcus Nixon arrived at a daycare center on King Street in Portsmouth, Virginia. He was there to pay a bill, a routine task on what likely began as an ordinary day. His children were with him, waiting in his car, bearing witness to the tragic events that would unfold in a matter of moments. Shortly before 8 a.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the morning calm. Nixon was shot multiple times in front of the daycare.
