In the early morning hours of a September day, violence shattered the quiet of a Portsmouth, Virginia neighborhood, leaving a community in mourning. Twenty-nine-year-old Kip Miguel Jones II, a male resident of the city, was killed in a shooting that also injured three other people.
The incident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. at the intersection of Dahlia and Manly streets. When Portsmouth police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered four individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of medics, Jones was pronounced dead at the scene. The three other victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.
In the days following the shooting, a memorial with the letters 'K-I-P' was arranged at the scene of the crime. Friends and neighbors gathered to pay their respects, with one friend expressing that it was too soon to find the words to describe her pain. A local resident who has lived near the intersection for five years described a large police presence in the Truxtun Historic District neighborhood for several hours after the shooting.
As the investigation into the quadruple shooting continues, the Portsmouth Police Department has appealed to the public for information. No suspects have been publicly named, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the case. Investigators have, however, identified a vehicle of interest: a silver or gray 2025 Kia K4 sedan with noticeable damage to the front passenger door. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting or the suspect vehicle to contact the Portsmouth Police Department or the Crime Line.
