On a Saturday night in February 2020, the life of 19-year-old Cairee D. Thomas was tragically cut short in Portsmouth, Virginia. Gunshots echoed in the 500 block of Court Street at approximately 10:13 p.m., drawing the attention of a nearby police officer. As people were seen fleeing from a building, the officer discovered the young man suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso.
