Trenton Reginald Grooms Sr., a 27-year-old African American man from Uniontown, PA, tragically passed away on May 24, 2016. His death was the result of a shooting incident in the Searights area of Menallen Township. Grooms was shot by Vincent Jones, 24, of Charleston, West Virginia, while allegedly attempting to break into a woman's home through her bedroom window.
Jones, along with Christian Carpenter, 23, of Highland Park, Michigan, were identified as suspects in the case. According to police reports, Grooms broke the window and entered the residence, where he was confronted by Jones and Carpenter. Jones fired four rounds from a revolver, hitting Grooms once in the right leg above the knee. Despite being wounded, Grooms managed to get into his car and drive away, but the vehicle crashed about a half-mile from the apartment. He was found dead inside the car.
The investigation revealed that Jones and Carpenter fled the scene in a rented 2015 grey Kia Optima with an Arizona license plate. Both were charged with criminal homicide and conspiracy. Jones later pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in connection with Grooms' death. Carpenter's legal proceedings continued, and he faced charges related to the incident.
