On a summer evening in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, a residence on Millview Street became the scene of a fatal shooting that claimed the lives of two men. The incident, which occurred on June 23, 2016, resulted in the death of 37-year-old Corey Johnson. Another man, 25-year-old Meshach Punter, was also found deceased at the location.
Authorities who responded to the 7:15 p.m. call discovered both Johnson and Punter, both from Uniontown, with fatal gunshot wounds. Investigators recovered two handguns at the scene, suggesting a complex series of events had unfolded within the home. While neither of the deceased men lived at the Millview Street house, it was reported that one of them may have been staying with the tenant. A third individual was present in the residence at the time of the shooting and was subsequently interviewed by the police.
The investigation into the double homicide led to the arrest of Bennie Fletcher Jr., who was 62 at the time. According to Fletcher's account, an argument had broken out between Johnson and Punter. Fletcher claimed he went to the kitchen to cook dinner when he heard several gunshots. He then hid in the pantry and, upon Johnson entering the kitchen, shot him three times.
Fletcher ultimately pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence, and a firearms charge in connection with Corey Johnson's death. While a self-defense claim was considered by his attorney, evidence presented indicated that Johnson had been shot in the back as he was attempting to leave the house. For his role in the shooting, Bennie Fletcher Jr. was sentenced to serve between eight and seventeen years in prison.
