On March 8, 2023, 28-year-old Tommy Tase "Man Man" Stargell Jr. was fatally shot at the Sails Inn Bar & Grill on North Gallatin Avenue in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred around 12:15 a.m., resulting in the deaths of both Stargell and 32-year-old Darrell Gregg.
Surveillance footage from the bar showed Stargell and Gregg among a group of patrons when an altercation erupted. During the confrontation, both men were seen with firearms. Gregg reportedly drew his weapon first, leading to a struggle during which shots were fired. Stargell, who was attempting to intervene and de-escalate the situation, was struck by gunfire.
In the aftermath, authorities issued an arrest warrant for 32-year-old Daryl Maurice Truley Jr., charging him with homicide in connection with Gregg's death. Truley was observed on surveillance video firing multiple shots toward Gregg and two women nearby. However, no charges were immediately filed concerning Stargell's death, as investigators were unable to determine who fired the fatal shot.
By March 2024, the Fayette County District Attorney's Office withdrew the homicide charge against Truley related to Gregg's death, concluding that Truley acted in justifiable self-defense after Gregg was identified as the initial aggressor. Regarding Stargell's death, authorities were still unable to ascertain responsibility, leaving his family seeking answers and justice.
Stargell's passing deeply affected the Uniontown community. Known for his kind and friendly nature, he was a devoted father to his four children. Family and friends held vigils in his honor, expressing grief and calling for a thorough investigation to bring closure to his untimely death.
