In the late hours of August 2, 2023, the life of 24-year-old Zion Joseph was tragically cut short in Richmond, Virginia. A Black male, Joseph was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the 1900 block of Phaup Street. The call reporting the shooting came in at approximately 11:55 p.m., bringing Richmond Police officers to the residential area.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Joseph outside a home, gravely injured.
Emergency services transported him to a local hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite their efforts, Zion Joseph succumbed to his injuries in the early morning hours that followed. The medical examiner would later officially determine the cause and manner of his death.
In the immediate aftermath, the Richmond Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the shooting death of Zion Joseph.
