In the early spring of 2015, a violent act on a South Richmond street cut short the life of 28-year-old David L. Briggs. On the evening of March 29th, police responded to the intersection of Deerwood and Bradford roads to find Briggs suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was discovered lying near a vacant house, the victim of a brutal shooting. Emergency services rushed him to VCU/MCV Medical Center, where medical personnel fought to save his life.
Despite their efforts, Briggs succumbed to his injuries the following evening, March 30, 2015.
The investigation into the homicide revealed that David, affectionately known as 'Dee' to his friends and family, had been shot multiple times. Eyewitnesses at the scene provided a description of three potential suspects. They were described as Black males, estimated to be between the ages of 20 and 30. These individuals were reportedly seen fleeing the area in an older model, grey Chevrolet Impala. The motive for the shooting remains unclear to the public.
In the wake of the deadly shooting, the Richmond Police Department launched an investigation, appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the apprehension of those responsible for David Briggs' death. His passing marked the fifth homicide in the city of Richmond that year. Despite the witness accounts and the ongoing investigation, no arrests have been announced in connection with the murder. The case remains unsolved, leaving a family and community awaiting justice for a life taken too soon.
