In the early hours of August 20, 2023, 43-year-old Johnnie Antoine Brown was fatally shot at his residence in the 3700 block of Ridge Road near Palmyra, Virginia. Responding to a 3 a.m. emergency call, Fluvanna County Sheriff's deputies found Brown with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts by deputies and members of the Fluvanna County Rescue Squad and Fire Department, Brown was pronounced dead at the scene.
