In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Virginia Beach, Virginia, a tragic event unfolded that claimed the lives of three people. On September 10, 2023, police were called to a residence on Gateway Place just after midnight, where they discovered a grim scene. Inside the home, they found 38-year-old Jon Lafave, a male, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Two other individuals, Rebecca Ericson, 42, and her brother, Stephen Ericson, 39, were also found with gunshot injuries.
Lafave, who was engaged to Rebecca Ericson, was transported to a local hospital for his injuries but ultimately did not survive. The investigation into the triple shooting determined that the incident was a double murder-suicide. It is believed that Stephen Ericson shot both his sister, Rebecca, and her fiancé, Jon Lafave, before turning the gun on himself. The medical examiner later confirmed that the deaths of Jon Lafave and Rebecca Ericson were homicides, while Stephen Ericson's death was ruled a suicide.
Earlier on the same day, police had been called to the residence due to a reported altercation. At that time, officers determined that no crime had been committed and suggested that the individuals involved separate from one another. Tragically, the situation escalated later that night. As the perpetrator was also deceased, authorities are not seeking any suspects in connection with the deaths, and no arrests have been made.
