In the quiet evening of January 8, 2024, the life of 25-year-old Uel Eduardo Osorio was tragically cut short in Hampton, Virginia. He was discovered inside a vehicle on Fairland Avenue, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency responders transported him to a local hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. At the time of his death, Osorio was a resident of Newport News.
The Hampton Police Division launched an investigation into the shooting.
In the days following the incident, authorities publicly identified Osorio as the victim and sought assistance from the community to identify any suspects. Their efforts led to a significant development in February 2024 with the arrest of a 16-year-old male from Hampton. The juvenile suspect was taken into custody without incident on February 16, 2024.
The teenage suspect faces a series of serious charges in connection with Osorio's death, including one count of first-degree murder, two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony, one count of robbery, and one count of possession of a firearm by a juvenile. Further investigation revealed the suspect's alleged involvement in other violent crimes. He was also charged in connection with a maiming incident that occurred on South Armistead Avenue on February 6, 2024, as well as an assault on the same day. These additional charges include aggravated malicious wounding, attempted malicious wounding, and numerous other firearm-related offenses. The motive and the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting of Osorio remain under investigation by the Major Crimes Unit.
