On the evening of Valentine's Day, February 14, 2024, a dispute inside a Hampton, Virginia, restaurant tragically escalated, ending the life of 29-year-old Travell Lavar Giles. The male victim was an employee at the Wingstop on Coliseum Crossing where the incident occurred. That evening, a verbal altercation broke out between Giles and a former co-worker inside the establishment. The argument took a fatal turn when the other man brandished a firearm and shot Giles.
When first responders arrived at the scene around 8:15 p.m., they found Giles suffering from a gunshot wound; he was pronounced deceased at the location.
The suspect fled the scene before police arrived, sparking an investigation by the Hampton Police Division's Major Crimes Unit. Early in the investigation, police determined that the suspect was known to Giles and was a former employee of the restaurant. By the end of February, authorities publicly identified 25-year-old Isaiah Daqwon Harris of Newport News as the man wanted in connection with the shooting. A manhunt ensued, with warrants issued for his arrest on multiple charges. The U.S. Marshals Service joined the search and offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to his capture.
The search for Harris concluded on June 6, 2024, when he was taken into custody without incident by the Hampton Police Division with assistance from the United States Marshal's Office. Following his arrest, Harris was served with outstanding warrants for a list of serious offenses. The charges against him included second-degree murder, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and shooting inside an occupied building.
