In the early morning hours of January 19, 2013, a dispute outside a Hampton, Virginia lodge tragically escalated, ending the life of 30-year-old Joseph Lee McQueen. The male victim was with another man, 24-year-old Clifton Kareem Christian of Norfolk, when an argument broke out in the parking lot of the White Oaks Lodge on Kecoughtan Road.
At approximately 1:46 a.m., multiple calls reporting shots fired sent Hampton Police Division officers to the scene. Upon their arrival, they discovered both McQueen and Christian outside the establishment, each having sustained gunshot wounds to their upper bodies. Despite the immediate response from police and rescue personnel, both men were pronounced dead at the scene. According to the family of the other victim, Christian was attempting to act as a peacemaker and de-escalate the argument when the shooting began.
The investigation into the double homicide led Hampton police to identify 18-year-old Rahmeal Latrey Perry as the suspect. Warrants were issued for his arrest, and on March 21, 2013, Perry was taken into custody. He was subsequently charged with two counts of murder and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Following his arrest, Perry was incarcerated in the Hampton City Jail.
