On a Sunday evening in the spring of 2024, the life of Brian L. Cosby, a 46-year-old male, was abruptly cut short. On May 26th, in the normally quiet 1900 block of Periwinkle Drive in Chesterfield, a community within the greater Richmond, Virginia area, violence erupted, leaving a devastating impact. Chesterfield County Police were called to the scene at approximately 8:15 p.m. following reports of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, they discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
Brian L. Cosby was found at the scene and was pronounced dead. A second victim, an adult female, was also found with life-threatening injuries. She was quickly transported to a local hospital for medical attention. Her condition was initially critical, but she was later reported to be in stable condition. The incident shocked the local community, prompting an immediate and thorough investigation by law enforcement.
The day after the fatal shooting, on Monday, May 27th, an arrest was made in connection with the homicide. Dion M. Rucker, a 45-year-old resident of the 3000 block of Scuffletown Road in Rice, Virginia, was taken into custody by the Chesterfield County Police. The investigation revealed that Rucker was known to the female victim.
Following his arrest, Dion M. Rucker was charged with several serious offenses. These charges include second-degree murder for the death of Brian L. Cosby, aggravated malicious wounding in relation to the injuries sustained by the female victim, two counts of the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Rucker is currently being held at the Chesterfield County Jail without bond as the investigation into the shooting continues.
