On November 1, 2024, 24-year-old Mahleik Barber was fatally shot in the 3700 block of Marshall Avenue in Newport News, Virginia. Police responded to a ShotSpotter alert around 10:36 p.m. and found Barber suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
