In the crisp autumn air of Friday, November 1, 2024, the life of 24-year-old Mahleik Barber was tragically cut short in Newport News, Virginia. That evening, the sharp report of gunfire echoed in the 3700 block of Marshall Avenue, prompting a response from the Newport News Police Department who were alerted by gunshot detection technology. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Barber suffering from a gunshot wound.
