In the late afternoon of a September day in Clarendon County, South Carolina, a domestic dispute turned fatal, ending the life of 71-year-old Henry Everett Allen. On September 11, 2023, deputies were dispatched to a residence on Homer Drive in the Summerton area around 3 p.m., where they discovered Mr. Allen's body. An investigation revealed he had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

Further inquiry into the life of Henry 'Bootlang' Allen, a man born in Manning and a graduate of Scott's Branch High School, revealed a man who had spent a decade working in New York before returning to his home state to be closer to family. He was a father and grandfather, known for his hardworking nature and his willingness to help others in his community. He was an active member of his church, serving on the usher board and assisting with janitorial duties. His life, however, came to an abrupt and violent end inside the home of his girlfriend.
The investigation into his death swiftly brought clarity and charges. The individual detained at the scene was identified as 71-year-old Norine Sanders Brown. Authorities determined that she and Mr. Allen were in a relationship but did not reside together. On the day of the shooting, an argument erupted between the couple following Mr. Allen's admission of infidelity. In the heat of the moment, Ms. Brown allegedly shot Mr. Allen, causing his death.
Following the investigation, Norine Sanders Brown was arrested and formally charged with voluntary manslaughter and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. If convicted of both charges, she could face a prison sentence of up to 35 years. The charge of voluntary manslaughter alone carries a potential sentence of up to 30 years. Ms. Brown is currently being held at the Clarendon County Detention Center as she awaits legal proceedings.
