On December 22, 2023, 18-year-old Omarion "Duke" Garvin of St. Helena, South Carolina, tragically lost his life in a shooting incident in Bluffton. The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office reported that the shooting occurred in a shopping center parking lot shared by several retail businesses. Deputies responding to a call shortly after 10:30 p.m. discovered multiple victims at different locations within the vicinity.
