In the early morning hours of October 23, 2022, a dispute in downtown Iowa City escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 36-year-old Waymond Thomas. The incident occurred just before 2 a.m. in an alley near the H-Bar on South Van Buren Street. Iowa City Police responded to reports of multiple gunshots and discovered Thomas suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
