On a late Saturday night bleeding into the early hours of Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, the Domino Lounge on Dorchester Road in North Charleston, South Carolina, became the scene of a fatal shooting. Inside, 46-year-old Jermel Brown, a male resident of Summerville, was shot. The North Charleston Police Department was called to the nightclub at approximately 2 a.m.
in response to the violence that had erupted.
Emergency services arrived to find a chaotic scene and Jermel Brown suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The Charleston County Coroner's Office later officially identified Brown as the victim of the deadly nightclub shooting. The incident left the community shaken and searching for answers as to what led to the bloodshed on a holiday weekend.
The investigation into the death of Jermel Brown moved swiftly, and within a couple of days, the North Charleston Police Department had a suspect in custody. On the evening of April 1, 2024, officers arrested 40-year-old Esau Demetrius Davis in connection with the fatal shooting. Davis, a Black male, was taken into custody and transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center to await legal proceedings.
Following his arrest, Esau Demetrius Davis was formally charged for his alleged role in the death of Jermel Brown. The charges brought against him were severe and included one count of Murder and one count of Assault / Attempted Murder, indicating that another individual may have been targeted or endangered during the incident at the Domino Lounge. His case was filed in the Charleston County judicial system, where it is currently listed as pending. The motive behind the shooting has not been publicly released by law enforcement as the case prepares to move through the court system, leaving the community to mourn the senseless loss of life.
