In North Charleston, South Carolina, a life was tragically cut short on the evening of November 10, 2024. Jamere Leonard Milligan, a 16-year-old male, was discovered on Chestnut Street around 6 p.m., suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency services transported him to the Medical University of South Carolina, but he succumbed to his injuries about thirty minutes after his arrival.
Milligan was a student at North Charleston High School, where he was remembered by his athletic director and head football coach as a rising star on the football field and in his academic pursuits.
The North Charleston Police Department began an immediate investigation into the death of Jamere Milligan. Their efforts quickly led to the identification of potential suspects. The day after the fatal shooting, on November 11, investigators arrested a male juvenile in connection with the incident. This was followed by the apprehension of a second male juvenile on November 13.
Both of the young men taken into custody are facing serious charges for their alleged involvement in Milligan's death. The charges filed against them include murder, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. Due to their status as minors, the authorities have not publicly released the names of the two suspects. The community, including students and faculty at North Charleston High School, mourned the loss of the young man. A celebration of his life was held on November 23, 2024, at the Destiny Worship Center in North Charleston.
