In the summer of 2023, a young man's life was cut short in a burst of violence on a North Charleston street. Desean Xaundre Calvary, a 26-year-old male, was fatally shot on the evening of July 27th. The incident occurred around 8:45 p.m. in the vicinity of Sorentrue Avenue and South Allen Drive. In the immediate aftermath, Calvary was privately transported to a local hospital's emergency room, but despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead later that night.
The North Charleston
Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting death of Calvary. For over a month, detectives worked the case, following leads and gathering evidence. Their efforts culminated in the identification of a suspect. On September 5, 2023, the investigation led to the arrest of Nicholas McBeth, a 34-year-old man.
Following his arrest, Nicholas McBeth was charged in connection with the death of Desean Calvary. The charges brought against him were severe: one count of murder and one count of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. McBeth, a Black male, was booked into the Charleston County detention center. The case against him is currently pending in the Court of General Sessions. Public records indicate that he has made several court appearances since his arrest, as the legal process continues to unfold. The motive for the shooting has not been publicly released by investigators.
