On February 12, 2023, 23-year-old De'Vonta Ryshun McMillian was fatally shot outside the Louisville Pit Stop, a convenience store located at the intersection of Jones Avenue and John C. Stennis Drive in Louisville, Mississippi. The incident, which occurred in the parking lot, resulted in McMillian's death and injuries to five others, including 62-year-old Richard Vaughn, who was believed to be a bystander shot in the back.
