In a tragic turn of events on a Tuesday morning in Winston County, Mississippi, the promising life of 18-year-old Katavis Malik Miller was cut short. On February 26, 2019, Miller, a standout athlete from Noxapater High School known for his prowess on both the football field and basketball court, was fatally shot. The incident, which stemmed from what authorities believe was a disagreement that quickly escalated, took place at a residence just south of Louisville. Miller sustained multiple gunshot wounds, with the fatal one being to his upper chest. He was rushed to a local hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The ensuing investigation swiftly led to a suspect, another 18-year-old named Jared Hannah of Louisville. Authorities reported that Hannah and Miller were acquainted with each other. Following the shooting, Hannah fled the scene, prompting a search by law enforcement. He was discovered approximately four hours later, hiding in the top of a closet in another home on Odie Shields Road, not far from the location of the shooting.
Jared Hannah was taken into custody and subsequently charged with the murder of Malik Miller. Investigators believe Hannah used a. 40-caliber handgun, firing multiple shots with one striking Miller. Following his arrest, a judge denied bond for Hannah. Law enforcement officials stated that they did not anticipate making any further arrests in connection with the shooting.
