On Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2022, a 17-year-old African American male named Jeremiah Eubanks was tragically killed in a shooting in Stone Mountain, Georgia. A student at Miller Grove High School, Jeremiah was running errands with his older brother before their family's planned Thanksgiving meal. Just after 7 p.m., they stopped at a Shell gas station located on South Stone Mountain Lithonia Road.
As Jeremiah was walking toward the gas station, a vehicle drove by and shots were fired from within it.
Jeremiah was struck by the gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene. It is believed that he was an innocent bystander and not the intended target of the shooters. Another young man, 19-year-old Kelson Cody, was also wounded in the incident, suffering a gunshot wound to his foot. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Jeremiah's mother, Crystal Eubanks, was waiting at a rental home she had arranged for the family's holiday gathering when she received the devastating news about her youngest child.
Homicide detectives with the DeKalb County Police Department are handling the ongoing investigation into Jeremiah's death. To date, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in the shooting, and no arrests have been made. The police have urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward to assist in the investigation and help bring justice to Jeremiah and his family.
