Kyharie Rodgers, an 18-year-old Black male, was fatally shot in Laurel, Mississippi, on March 11, 2023. The incident that led to his death unfolded on Dr. Deborrah Hyde Avenue.
Following the shooting, an investigation by local law enforcement led to the arrest of two suspects. The individuals taken into custody were identified as Nathaniel Tayes and his brother, Johnari Tayes. The Laurel Police Department announced the arrests in connection with the fatal drive-by shooting.
Subsequent legal proceedings took place in the Jones County Justice Court. After considering the evidence presented, the judge presiding over the case determined that there was insufficient probable cause to bind the Tayes brothers over to a grand jury for indictment. As a result of this ruling, the charges against both Nathaniel and Johnari Tayes were dismissed.
