Gilma Goodman, a 90-year-old woman from Concord, NC, passed away on October 5, 2016, at her home. She was born on December 29, 1925, in Salisbury, NC, and was a beloved member of the Branchview Church of God in Concord. Gilma was known for her crocheting and her love for cooking for her family. She was deeply cherished by her family, including her son, David Moore, her daughter, Janice Guinn, and her seven grandchildren, among others.
Tragically, Gilma's death was the result of a violent
incident. Two teenagers, 17-year-old Anthony Cooper and Isaiah Powell, were charged with her murder. According to police reports, the two attempted to rob Goodman's home, and during the robbery, she was shot and killed. Neighbors reported that Goodman may have opened the door to her killers, and when Carolyne Oliver, a neighbor, went to check on her, she found Goodman dead on the floor just inside the back door of her house.
The Concord Police Department arrested Cooper and Powell on charges of first-degree murder, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, and discharging a weapon into an occupied property causing serious bodily injury. The investigation revealed that three suspects were seen in the area of Goodman's home the night of her murder, but only Cooper and Powell were taken into custody. The police continued to follow up on leads and conduct interviews to determine if there were any additional suspects involved.
