In the winter of 2024, a violent encounter in Laurel, Mississippi, led to the untimely death of 46-year-old Jamie Jones. On the evening of December 18th, authorities responded to a call near the intersection of Ferrill Street and Rose Avenue, where they discovered Jones with a gunshot wound to his head. He was immediately rushed to South Central Regional Medical Center for urgent medical attention.
Given the severity of his injuries, Jamie Jones was later transferred to Forrest General
Hospital in Hattiesburg. Despite the efforts of the medical teams at both facilities, his condition remained critical. Three days after the shooting, on December 21, 2024, Jamie Jones succumbed to his injuries and passed away. His death prompted a homicide investigation by the Laurel Police Department.
The subsequent investigation into the shooting led to the identification and arrest of two suspects. Keamond McLeod was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault. His twin brother, Kevon McLeod, was also arrested and faced a charge of accessory before the fact of aggravated assault. Following their arrests, Keamond McLeod's bond was set at $1 million, while Kevon McLeod's was established at $500,000. Authorities have indicated that the investigation is ongoing and that the initial charges may be upgraded in light of Jones's death.
