On June 1, 2023, Officer Horren Randy Tyler, a 64-year-old member of the Madison Police Department in Mississippi, was fatally shot during a tactical operation in Brandon. The incident began around 1:20 a.m. when a heavily armed individual, identified as 22-year-old Gabriel Matthew Wilson, forcibly entered a residence on Terrapin Hill Road North, taking two women hostage. One of the women managed to escape early on, while the other was held captive until negotiators secured her release.
