Bryson Horne Wash, a 20-year-old Black male from Brandon, Mississippi, was a recent high school graduate and a doting father to his young daughter. A former athlete who played football, basketball, and track, his life was tragically cut short on the morning of April 23, 2024. Stumbling into his cousin's bedroom, he managed to utter his final words, 'I just got shot,' before collapsing.
His mother, Violet Horne, was present and performed chest compressions in a desperate attempt to save him, but he succumbed to a single gunshot wound to the right side of his body and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
The events leading to his death reportedly stemmed from a dispute. Witnesses at the home saw a small white Honda Accord speeding away from the residence immediately after the shooting. Later that day, two individuals, 20-year-old Ryan Scott Duette and 20-year-old Lainey Bella Ingle, walked into the Rankin County Sheriff's Office to provide a statement about an altercation they had with Bryson. Investigators recovered multiple firearms from their vehicle.
Following their statements, Ryan Scott Duette was arrested and charged with murder. His bond was set at $500,000. Lainey Bella Ingle was charged with felony accessory after the fact and was released from jail after posting a $50,000 bond. The shooting was a devastating blow to a family already reeling from immense grief, as Bryson's 14-year-old brother, Cameron Horne-Crook, had been shot and killed just 29 days earlier in a separate incident in a neighboring county. Law enforcement officials have stated they are investigating any potential connections between the two murders.
