In the late hours of a Thursday evening in Vicksburg, Mississippi, a dispute over a game of chance tragically escalated, ending the life of 26-year-old Kelvion Winston. On June 8, 2023, just after 11:30 p.m., police responded to a call of a shooting in the 1600 block of Crawford Street. Upon arrival, they found Winston, a Black male from Fayette, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to Merit Health River Region, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
The Vicksburg Police Department's investigation into the homicide, which they later described as a case of 'gambling gone bad,' swiftly led to the identification of three suspects, all from Vicksburg. Bryant Williams, 31, and Joshua Perkins, also 31, were soon taken into custody. Both men were charged with murder and three counts of shooting into an unoccupied vehicle. Perkins faced an additional charge for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. A judge set Bryant Williams' bond at $2 million.
A third suspect, 28-year-old Quentarious 'Woosie' Williams, who is Bryant Williams' cousin, went on the run following the shooting. Authorities believed he had fled to Texas. Described as being 6'1' and weighing 190 pounds, a search for him was initiated, with law enforcement seeking assistance from the public. The investigation was aided by witness interviews and, significantly, social media posts that helped to identify the suspects.
After a manhunt that lasted nearly two and a half months, Quentarious Williams was apprehended in the Dallas, Texas, metropolitan area on August 25, 2023. He was subsequently extradited back to Vicksburg to face charges in connection with Winston's death. Upon his return, he was charged with murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and three counts of shooting into an unoccupied vehicle. His bond was set at $2.2 million. He had a prior conviction for manslaughter in 2014.
