On the evening of September 17, 2021, a domestic dispute in Vicksburg, Mississippi, ended in the tragic death of 33-year-old Jamal Stowers, a Black male. Vicksburg Police officers were called to the 100 block of Sprout Springs Road at approximately 7:44 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Stowers near the street, suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of Jamal Stowers quickly led to a suspect, his 37-year-old girlfriend, Shannon Williams. Evidence suggested that a domestic altercation had escalated, resulting in the fatal shooting. Williams was taken into custody shortly after the incident. It was also reported that Williams had a protective order against Stowers at the time of the shooting.
Following her arrest, Shannon Williams was charged in connection with the death of Jamal Stowers. She was held without bond and had her initial appearance in Vicksburg Municipal Court on September 20, 2021. The case was subsequently referred to a grand jury for further legal proceedings.
