In the winter of 2023, the community of Laurel, Mississippi, was shaken by the violent and untimely death of 15-year-old Antwon Thames. A Black male, Thames was fatally wounded in a shooting incident that unfolded on the evening of December 6, 2023. The fatal shots were fired at Windsor Court, a residential area within the city. Friends and family remembered the Northeast Jones High School 8th-grader as a funny, happy, and encouraging young man.
