In the late hours of a Thursday in Laurel, Mississippi, a domestic dispute inside a convenience store tragically escalated, leading to the death of 54-year-old Terry Merrill. The African American man was fatally shot in the chest outside the Scott and Pops Store on Ellisville Boulevard on March 21, 2024. Despite being rushed to South Central Regional Medical Center, Merrill succumbed to his injuries.
The Laurel Police Department swiftly launched an investigation into the shooting. Acting on a tip from a confidential informant, officers located and arrested 36-year-old Nicole Weems on Poplar Drive at King Street. Weems was subsequently charged with murder in connection with Merrill's death and was booked into the Jones County Jail.
