In a tragic turn of events stemming from a domestic dispute, Carl Tyrone Fair Jr., a 25-year-old Black man from Laurel, Mississippi, was shot and killed on September 3, 2017. The incident unfolded at the West Hill Apartments on West 10th Street in Laurel, where police responded to a distress call from a woman reporting that her ex-boyfriend was attempting to force his way into her apartment.
