On January 11, 2024, 19-year-old Shackia Stewart of Robinsonville, Mississippi, was fatally shot in Greenwood. The incident began with an exchange of gunfire at a highway intersection and continued into a nearby McDonald's restaurant. Stewart was transported to Greenwood Leflore Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A second victim, a 20-year-old male, was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson for treatment.
