On May 13, 2023, Jordan Drake, a 23-year-old from Wingate, North Carolina, was fatally shot at a residence on Hartland Drive near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Emergency responders found Drake deceased at the scene around 7:20 p.m.

Authorities quickly identified and arrested 21-year-old Mitchell Keith Sykes of Monroe, North Carolina, charging him with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
