On the afternoon of Thursday, August 8, 2024, events escalated at a Marathon gas station on Highway 12 East, resulting in a fatal shooting. Law enforcement was called to the Baptist Medical Center-Attala, where Jones had been taken after sustaining a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a domestic conflict. Authorities identified Jones's wife, Semyia Jones, who was 26 years old at the time, as the alleged shooter.
