On October 8, 2023, Theodore "Ted" Lawson, a 63-year-old political activist and secretary for the Ingham County Democratic Party, was shot and killed in Lansing, Michigan. The incident occurred while Lawson was canvassing for a local city council candidate, Trini Lopez Pehlivanoglu.
