In the early afternoon of Wednesday, February 21, 2024, Joshun Laandre Edwards, a 43-year-old Black male, was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Southside Liquor Shoppe on Lapeer Road in Flint, Michigan. Edwards was getting into his car when the incident occurred. He was quickly transported to Hurley Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The Flint Police Department immediately began an investigation into the shooting.

In the wake of the incident, law enforcement identified a person of interest and took them into custody. The suspect was later identified as 52-year-old Terry Paul Moore. Investigators learned that Moore and Edwards had a history of conflict spanning several years. This animosity had reportedly escalated in the days leading up to the fatal encounter, including a dispute that occurred just three days prior in Burton, Michigan.

Terry Paul Moore was subsequently charged in connection with the death of Joshun Edwards. In October 2025, a jury found Moore guilty of second-degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and two counts of felony firearm. Following his conviction, Moore was sentenced to a minimum of 47 years in prison for the murder.

The life of Joshun Edwards was marked by its own complexities. In 2007, he was one of four men convicted and sentenced to life in prison for a murder. However, after spending 15 years behind bars, their convictions were vacated by the Michigan Supreme Court due to a missing police interview transcript that the defense argued was crucial for impeaching a key witness. A new trial was pending, but the case was ultimately dismissed when a witness recanted their testimony, leading to Edwards's release in 2022.
