In the early morning hours of September 14, 2024, the life of 20-year-old Ladarius Jaheel Clay was tragically cut short in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Clay, a male, was behind the wheel of a white GMC SUV, accompanied by three passengers, when the vehicle was met with a spray of bullets. The incident occurred at approximately 4:07 a.m. near the intersection of Westnedge Avenue and Florence Street as he was turning south.
Despite being struck by a gunshot to his torso, a gravely wounded Clay
managed to drive to a local hospital. Another passenger in the SUV also sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was listed in stable condition. Tragically, Clay succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety launched an investigation into the fatal shooting, describing it as a homicide. As of February 2025, authorities have reported that while they are pursuing several leads and have made progress in identifying those involved, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. There has been no public confirmation regarding any specific suspect or suspects.
The investigation remains open, and law enforcement continues to seek assistance from the public. They have urged anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward to help bring justice for Ladarius Jaheel Clay and his family. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.
