On a summer evening in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the life of 28-year-old Devante Coleman was tragically cut short. On July 22, 2020, Coleman, a Black male, was shot on Cameron Street in what police have described as a retaliatory act of violence. This incident was part of a series of shootings that shook the community on that day, resulting in the death of another man, 29-year-old Dondreal Watkins, and injuring one other person.
