On September 15, 2024, Jalen Welch, a 25-year-old from Detroit, was fatally shot during an incident at Eastern Market following a Detroit Lions game. The shooting occurred around 4:30 p.m. near Shed 6, where Welch and another man, 40-year-old Rayshawn Palmer, were involved in a confrontation that escalated into violence.
