On a late Monday evening, March 29, 1982, a dedicated officer's life was tragically cut short in the line of duty. William Green, a 29-year-old male officer with the Detroit Police Department, was fatally shot at approximately 11:05 p.m. near the corner of Woodward and Leicester, in front of the Ambassador Convalescent Center. With nine years of service on the force, he was a seasoned officer who had committed his career to protecting the citizens of Detroit.
