Tyrone Davis Glenn Jr., a 24-year-old Black male from Pontiac, Michigan, was a son, brother, father, and uncle known affectionately to friends and family as 'Nu Nu.' Described by loved ones as an amazing and loving man who was goofy, fun, and had an old soul, his life was tragically cut short in the fall of 2024. His cousin, Markeela Jacob, remembered him as being "everything" to his family, a person who would now live on only as a memory.
On the morning of Tuesday, October 8, 2024, a
gathering at an apartment on North Sanford Street in Pontiac turned deadly. Several people had been hanging out and playing a dice game when a dispute arose. A 32-year-old Detroit man reportedly became enraged after losing $80 in the game. He left the apartment but returned around 8 a.m., armed with a handgun.
In a strange attempt to muffle the sound of gunfire, the man allegedly used a potato as a makeshift silencer. The tactic was ineffective, as witnesses later told investigators they heard the gunshots and called 911 at approximately 8:22 a.m. The man opened fire, shooting both Tyrone Glenn and 20-year-old Sidney Ward III of Highland Park multiple times. Ward was pronounced dead at the scene. Glenn was rushed to a local hospital, where he died a short time later.
After the shooting, the suspect fled the apartment complex. He took an Uber to the area of South Boulevard and Woodward Avenue, where he got out and fled on foot. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office launched an intensive investigation. Detectives recovered two semi-automatic handguns connected to the case and began conducting surveillance at various locations.
Approximately 12 hours after the murders, detectives located the suspect walking along Eight Mile Road near Evergreen Road in Southfield. He was carrying two grocery bags and a case of beer when he was taken into custody. The man was identified as Davonte Demetri Franklin.
Franklin was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and three counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. In July 2026, following a jury trial in Oakland County Circuit Court, he was convicted on all counts.
On August 31, 2026, Davonte Franklin was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murders of Tyrone Glenn and Sidney Ward. He received additional sentences for the weapons convictions. As of August 2026, the case is closed.
