In the late hours of April 27, 2019, a gathering at the Night Riders Motorcycle Club in Pontiac, Michigan, turned tragic, ending the life of 41-year-old Mecca Shea Ramsey. Mr. Ramsey, a Black male, was attending an after-hours party at the club located on Raeburn Street when the fatal incident unfolded.
The atmosphere of the party, attended by both members and non-members of the motorcycle club, was shattered by violence. Mecca Shea Ramsey was discovered in the men's restroom of the establishment, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds, predominantly in his back. Another individual, Malcolm Chambers, was also injured in the shooting, suffering a bullet wound to his arm and a grazing wound to his forehead.
The investigation into the homicide quickly pointed to a suspect, Gregory Kincade, a member of the Phantom Motorcycle Club who was also present at the party. Witnesses reported seeing Kincade exiting the restroom where Ramsey was found, attempting to conceal a handgun in his waistband. The discovery of packaged narcotics near Ramsey's body added another layer to the investigation.
Gregory Kincade was arrested and subsequently charged in connection with the shooting. His legal proceedings faced delays, including a mistrial in 2020 due to a medical emergency and further postponements caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, in early April 2022, a jury found Kincade guilty of second-degree murder for the death of Mecca Shea Ramsey. He was also convicted of assault with intent to commit murder for the shooting of Malcolm Chambers and multiple firearms offenses. For the murder of Ramsey, Kincade was sentenced to 45 to 80 years in prison, with concurrent sentences for the other charges. In October 2023, a three-judge panel upheld his conviction and 50-year minimum sentence.
