On a late Wednesday morning in May 2017, 38-year-old Shane Shorter, a male from Oak Park, had just concluded a routine meeting with his parole officer in Pontiac, Michigan. As he walked out into the parking lot of the parole office on Center Point Parkway just before noon, the spring day was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Shorter was fatally shot, collapsing beside the open driver's side door of his vehicle.
