In the early morning hours of July 11, 2023, a tragedy unfolded at the High Point Grocery and Tobacco Shop in Oxon Hill, Maryland, resulting in the death of 27-year-old Deangelo Washington. The male victim was working inside the convenience store, located in the 4400 block of Wheeler Road, when the fatal shooting occurred at approximately 4:40 a.m. Prince George's County police officers were dispatched to the scene and found Washington inside the business suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the location.
The preliminary investigation suggested that the shooting was not a random act. In the days following the incident, the Homicide Unit of the Prince George's County Police Department released surveillance video footage to the public in an effort to identify the individuals responsible for Washington's death. The video showed three suspects arriving in a red Honda. Two of the suspects entered the store, and after a brief conversation with Washington, they opened fire as he walked away. The suspects then fled the scene in the same vehicle. A third suspect was also reported to be involved in the shooting.
Authorities have been actively seeking information from the public to aid in the investigation and have offered a reward for any information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the suspects. Despite the release of the surveillance footage and the ongoing investigation, there have been no official announcements regarding any arrests or the identification of the suspects in the murder of Deangelo Washington. The case remains under active investigation by the Prince George's County Police Homicide Unit.
