In the early morning hours of August 2, 2023, a call for a cardiac arrest brought deputies from the Harford County Sheriff's Office to the 600 block of Longwood Court in Edgewood. Inside a residence, they discovered the body of 33-year-old Tyrell Orlando Polley, a male who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. It was tragically not his first encounter with gun violence; a previous shooting incident years prior had reportedly left him with impaired vision.
Detectives and
crime scene investigators with the Sheriff's Office's Criminal Investigations Division immediately took charge of the scene. Their investigation involved an extensive search for both witnesses and physical evidence. Through a combination of traditional police work and the use of technology, investigators were able to identify a person of interest.
Less than two weeks later, on August 15, 2023, an arrest warrant was issued for Michael Anthony Brown, Jr., a 37-year-old man from Brooklyn, Maryland. At the time the warrant was issued, Brown was already incarcerated at the Baltimore County Detention Center on unrelated charges. The new warrant added a slate of serious offenses to his name, including first and second-degree murder, as well as first and second-degree assault, in connection with the death of Tyrell Polley. While an arrest has been made, authorities have indicated that the investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
