In the late hours of June 9, 2021, the life of 20-year-old Jarmil Christopher Stewart was tragically cut short in Edgewood, Maryland. Deputies from the Harford County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 11:47 p.m. in the 6200 block of Edgewood Road. Upon their arrival, they discovered Stewart lying in the grass, suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower body.
Emergency medical efforts were immediately initiated by the deputies at the scene and
continued by medics. Stewart was then transported to the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. Despite the efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. From the outset, investigators believed the shooting was not a random act of violence and that Stewart had been specifically targeted. The motive for the shooting, however, remained unclear in the initial stages of the investigation.
For nearly three years, the case remained under investigation. The Harford County Sheriff's Office continued to seek information from the public, offering a cash reward for any tips that could lead to an arrest and indictment. The persistence of the detectives in the Criminal Investigations Division eventually led to a significant breakthrough.
In April 2024, an arrest was made in connection with the fatal shooting. Journay George Tucker, a 46-year-old man also from Edgewood, was identified as the suspect. Following an indictment, Tucker was charged with the murder of Jarmil Christopher Stewart, bringing a long-awaited development in the quest for justice for the young man whose life was taken.
