In the late hours of a Tuesday night, tragedy struck in Oxon Hill, Maryland, forever altering the lives of one family. Derrick Anthony Graham Jr., a 41-year-old male, was shot and killed on October 3, 2023, in what police have described as a random act of violence. The incident unfolded shortly before midnight on the 800 block of Irvington Street, a location that would become the scene of a grim investigation.
According to the Prince George's County Police Department, officers responded
to a report of a shooting and discovered Graham suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries a short time later. The investigation quickly revealed that Graham was the victim of an attempted armed robbery. He was unarmed and did not know the individuals who targeted him.
In the course of the attempted robbery, a second man, DeAngelo Moore, 32, of Washington D.C., was also shot. He died from his injuries two days after the incident. Homicide detectives determined that Moore was one of the suspects involved in the attempt to rob Graham. In late November 2023, authorities announced the arrests of two other suspects in connection with the double fatal shooting. Charles Washington Jr., 31, and Antonio Jackson, 32, both from Washington, D.C., were taken into custody.
The investigation concluded that Washington, Jackson, and Moore were all involved in the armed robbery attempt that led to the gunfire. Washington was subsequently charged with first and second-degree murder, along with related charges. Jackson faces a charge of second-degree murder. Both men were apprehended in the District of Columbia and awaited extradition to Prince George's County to face the charges against them.
